As humans, we constantly walk the tightrope between order and chaos, certainty and uncertainty, logic and love. This balancing act is not a byproduct of recent advancement, it is universal throughout culture and throughout time. Arcadia explores these connections in an unconventional and surprisingly witty way, as the lives of characters in two different time periods almost 200 years apart are played out in the same house onstage.
First performed in London in 1993, Tom Stoppard's thrilling play was quickly hailed as one of the most well-written and important plays of the 20th century. This is no easy feat for high school level performers to accurately portray. Cast members will be selected based on not only their performance of a classically styled monologue, but on their ability to maintain a British accent and on their analysis of one of the characters in the play. Whitman Drama will bring this celebrated play to life for the Whitman community on February 26th, 27th, and 28th at 7 pm.
